News Media Panelists at PRSA Delaware Breakfast, 2/23/2011
Panelists included (from left): Jonathan Starkey, business reporter for the Wilmington News Journal; Amy Cherry, broadcast news reporter for WDEL-AM 1150 radio; and Joseph DiStefano, business reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

In this episode of the "Lubetkin on Communications" podcast, we present a "Meet the Media" panel discussion recorded February 23, 2011 in Wilmington, DE, at the breakfast meeting of the Delaware Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

For this breakfast program, a panel of local business reporters will share the stories behind the headlines in Delaware and the greater Philadelphia area. Learn how these journalists — and their editorial teams — decide what to cover and report in today’s newspapers, websites and radio.

Panelists included Amy Cherry, 1150-AM WDEL; Joseph DiStefano, Philadelphia Inquirer; and, Jonathan Starkey, The News Journal.

Amy Cherry is an award-winning general assignment reporter and news anchor for 1150-AM WDEL. She covers everything from crime and business to education, politics, and human interest. If it's happening in Delaware, she's on it. Amy came to Delaware from WBZ-AM in Boston, where she was Editor. She's a member of the Delaware Press Association and the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association. Follow WDEL on Twitter at @WDEL.

Joseph DiStefano writes a business column in the Philadelphia Inquirer and the PhillyDeals blog. He’s worked at the Inquirer, more often than not, since 1988, leaving it a couple of times to make more money elsewhere and coming back when the Inquirer matched his pay. He’s also worked at The News Journal, where he had a column in the early 1990s; and at Bloomberg News, where he spent 2007 covering the early stages of the financial crisis at Citigroup and JPMorgan. He’s the author of Comcasted (2005, Camino Books), a book about Philadelphia’s largest company, which still hasn’t forgiven him. Joe was also one of our earliest podcast guests, when he appeared on the very first episode of our Middle Chamber Books podcast in 2005 to discuss his Comcast book.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Joe last year taught a senior writing seminar at St. Joseph’s University’s Haub business school. Joe lives north of Wilmington with his wife and their six kids. Follow the Philadelphia Inquirer @phillydotcom.

Jonathan Starkey covers autos, pharmaceuticals, health insurance issues and DuPont for The News Journal. Before coming to the paper in February 2010, Starkey freelanced for Newsday and The Washington Post. Follow him on Twitter at @jwstarkey. him on Twitter at @jwstarkey.
