In less than a decade, social media seems to have “taken over the world.” As one of the largest social networking sites, Facebook® boasts more than 750 million people actively using its service, with more joining every day. However, the vast majority of companies did not immediately join the social media revolution.  Instead, they observed from the sidelines.  But when the first wave of companies did join, it was because they anticipated the significant business benefits of “this brave new world” – where the personal, the professional, and the commercial combine seamlessly, and in the blink of an eye.

ACE recognizes that social media has created a whole new world of privacy, security, intellectual property, employment practices, and other legal risks.  In this podcast, we will discuss the business benefits of social media participation, and how the cost of non-participation – or opting out – could mean anything from losing business to losing touch with your customers.  We will also provide risk managers and business owners with some background on the risks of social media participation, discuss a few basic steps to address a company’s social media risks, and provide a roadmap to help make social media work for their company.  Most important, we’ll explain why a coordinated approach to managing the risks and liabilities when using social media is an essential best practice.

In this podcast, Seth Gillston, William Hazelton and Scott Meyer will examine mergers & acquisitions and related insurance considerations. To begin, the team will outline the questions dealmakers should consider prior to closing an M&A transaction to help identify potential liabilities. They will talk about environmental and directors’ and officers’ liability and key coverage concerns as they related to M&A deals. As we delve into the topic even more, they will  discuss the critical functions of an M&A deal and the importance of working with an insurance partner that is equipped to handle unique challenges as they emerge. Finally, the team will discuss the post-closing process and guide dealmakers through a post-closing analysis of the transaction.

In this ACE Group podcast, Barbara Deas,  President, ACE Westchester Environmental, the U.S.-based wholesale focused property & casualty operation of the ACE Group, and Bill Hazelton,  Senior Vice President of ACE Environmental Risk, a unit of ACE USA, the U.S.-based retail operation of the ACE Group, will examine the implications of the growing environmental sensitivity that has been reflected in the evolution of environmental laws, the historical evolution of public concerns about the environment, and ensuing regulations over the past five decades.

In addition, they will examine the evolution of insurance laws and insurance liabilities stemming from incidents of toxic waste and the spread of contamination. They will also discuss how the rigid stance toward environmental regulation has led government at all levels to increasingly require both environmental and non-environmental contractors and consultants to carry pollution liability coverage, as a condition of bidding on and winning projects. Finally, they will discuss the expanded environmental risks and liabilities faced by contractors and environmental consultants resulting from external influences, highlight environmental liability and key coverage concerns, and offer some best practices with regard to quality insurance protection.
