DELVACCA Panel, "A River Runs Through It: Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware Employment Laws & Issues, 6/19/2008

In this podcast, Flaster/Greenberg PC, a law firm headquartered in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, with offices in Egg Harbor Township, Morristown, Trenton, Vineland, Philadelphia, PA and Wilmington, DE, is pleased to present a panel discussion from DELVACCA, the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel.

Program title: "A River Runs Through It: Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware Employment Laws & Issues"

Speakers:

Michael Homans, Labor and Employment shareholder, Flaster/Greenberg P.C.

Wanda Flowers, Chief Counsel, Sunoco, Inc.

Nori Sue Fey, General Counsel, Bayada Nurses, West Deptford, NJ

Mary Tiernan, Program Analyst for the EEOC

Only the Delaware River separates NJ,PA and DE geographically, but they are worlds apart in their laws regulating the workplace. NJ places greater burdens and restrictions on employers, while providing employees with many additional remedies and causes of action. PA provides employees with fewer causes of action, but does present greater risks and liabilities as to some areas of employment law -- such as wage payment and collection. And it's a "small wonder" that DE, just down the river, has its own set of rules, too. Further muddying the waters are the procedural and administrative differences in initiating employment discrimination claims in each jurisdiction.

This lively seminar will identify key areas of concern and help counsel to companies with operations in all three states navigate the variations in state law.

STRATFORD, NJ (June 8, 2008) – Ten hours of non-stop bowling means more funding for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and ever-lasting pride for Wal-Mart associates.

Wal-Mart’s Market 279 – of Southern New Jersey – recently teamed with the MDA to host “Bowl for a Cure Challenge,” at La Martinque Lanes in Stratford, where market team members bowled for 10 straight hours to earn pledges from corporate sponsors.

Stores within the market contributed $10,000 from their community grant funds to the MDA, while sponsors of the event matched the donation – pledging $1,000 for each hour associates bowled – bringing the grand total to $20,000.

Photos from the event are available for use by the news media at this link.

“We’re very grateful to Wal-Mart for their continued generosity and tireless efforts in making this event a success,” said Melanie Morgan, program director for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. “Through partnerships like these, the MDA is able to continue to provide hope and solutions to the countless Americans afflicted with these diseases.”

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a voluntary group of dedicated scientists and concerned citizens aimed at defeating the neuromuscular diseases that affect more than one million Americans through research programs, medical and community services, and public health education. The MDA supports more research for neuromuscular diseases than any other private-sector organization in the world.

“The stores within our market took great pleasure in helping the MDA get that much closer to achieving its goals,” said Leon Schneider, MGM of Wal-Mart’s Market 279. “The Bowl-A-Thon was a perfect way for Wal-Mart’s associates to lend a hand to those in need, while having a fun-filled day with their co-workers, families and friends.”
