Senior Artists Initiative featured on Oct. 13 edition of Boomer Generation Radio

The Senior Artists Initiative is a nonprofit organization that assists artists in understanding the need for and processes involved in organizing their life’s work. SAI educates artists about the process of documenting and inventorying their work, legal issues pertaining to their art, estates, and artists’ rights. SAI’s Inventory And Oral History Project produces video interviews of established artists for online viewing.

In the second half of the show, Rabbi Address chats with Rabbi Elliot Strom, about his transition from a full-time career to the author of Rabbi, Run, a novel.

About the Guests

Carol Moore-Schulman

Philadelphia-area artists Carol Moore-Schulman and Phil Schulman have worked together on the Senior Artists Initiative, helping to create many of the oral histories on video of the more than 90 Philadelphia artists posted on SAI’s website. The Schulmans also discuss how they and other artists have transitioned to encore careers.

Artist and writer Carol Moore-Schulman is a professor emerita at University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where she still advises thesis students and serves as a visiting critic. “Life is about adapting and questioning. We’ve always had lives where we’ve transitioned from one thing to another, both personal and professional,” she says.

Phil SchulmanPhil Schulman has had a lengthy career, first as a Philadelphia and New York “Mad Man” ad agency vice president, then as a film production company director for 22 years, followed by a stint at the University of the Arts. “Being an explorer doesn’t stop with aging,” Phil says. He and Carol formed and now work together as “‘theadcouple,’ a creative advertising consultancy offering big ideas to smaller businesses.”
